Motherhood: The Place of Simple Joys

I am a lover of all things books. A friend recently narrated a scenario where thugs broke into their house at night while it was raining and made away with a few household items. They didn’t touch the books and they had placed a sum of money there intended to pay tithe. Interesting? I love reading. This is to me a simple joy that makes the journey of motherhood fun and fulfilling. Reading takes you to new worlds; you meet new people and stretch your imagination. After reading the book The Lady, Her Lover and Her Lord by Bishop TD Jakes, a balm was smoothed over my heart. Some of my wounds healed. I released myself wholly to God – it was unbelievable that things that had overstayed were swept in a flash. See these words:

Motherhood: The Place of TrustHe is ALL Sufficient

I was amazed to know that El Shaddai—the all sufficient, more than enough love of God is compared with a young one contentedly nursing at their mother’s breast. El means “strong one,” and Shaddai originates from the word for the breast in Hebrew. Just as the breastfeeding baby is totally dependent on her mother to survive, God is our protector, nourisher and comforter. David said that God taught him to trust while at his mother’s breast.

Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother's breast Psalm 22:9, NIV

Motherhood: The Place of RestRest for the Soul

Words That Set Us Up for Success

I am learning to serve my family from a place of rest. Knowing I am not alone. I can boldly approach the throne of grace that I may obtain mercy and find grace to help in my time of need. I am continually yielding myself to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We underestimate the help we need at our own peril. The arm of flesh will fail; we dare not trust our own.

Motherhood: The Place of ResponsibilityRaising Future Parents

The roles of a mother are nurturing, comforting, and teaching children within the family context.

She is responsible for homemaking, supports decision making and is the certified gatekeeper for meals, clothing and the atmosphere of the home. We turn houses into home. We turn groceries into meals. We turn smiles into love from the heart. By God’s design mothers are multi-faceted and wear many hats. Whether one is a working or stay at home, motherhood is a big responsibility. Our words and actions, our choices and desires strongly influence how the children grow and the fulfillment of God’s plan for their lives. Our prayers are very powerful. Some mothers are married, some are single moms, some are widows, some have had miscarriages or have lost a child. Motherhood is a noble calling entrusted to us by God. Motherhood shapes our lives in deeply transforming ways.
