Nursing Equipment Shipped!

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17 (ESV)

The nursing program is so very important, as not only are nurses needed during a pandemic, but in Kenya there are not many doctors; nurses fill in the gap.  Daystar University’s School of Nursing also adds the critical piece, which is Christ-centered servant leadership.

Here is the current nursing student enrollment:

 427 Athi River campus

47  Nairobi campus

474 total nursing students

With the tremendous growth of the nursing program, a skills lab is needed for teaching the students at the Athi River campus.   The nursing lab at the Nairobi campus (the equipment was sent over in 2018) has become an essential part of the education.

Many of you gave generously to fund the $125,000 that was needed for the new nursing lab equipment and shipping.   We have been working with a local non-profit (Matter) who specializes in medical equipment.

There were months of delays in regards to obtaining some of the equipment, most of it was from current supply chain issues (did you know there is a shortage of medical manikins?).  They were finally able to get the equipment and then packed it for ocean freight shipment (the container is 8’ high, 8’ wide and 40’ long!).   The container was also delayed because of the current trucking and shipping issues.   Last month it was loaded on a ship that docked in Norfolk, VA.  The container should be arriving in Mombasa, on the coast of Kenya early next month.  It will then be shipped via rail up to Nairobi.

We appreciate our friends at Matter, who sourced the equipment, including the packing and shipping of the container!

Please be praying for the shipment, that it arrive safely and that Daystar would have favor with the government so that they will not be charged duty.

This equipment provides great momentum for the future of the Nursing school!  President Laban sees nursing becoming a flagship program with a great impact on Africa for years to come.

Thank you so much for your prayers and generous support!

Blessings,

Alan
