Stories of Transformation. The Life Changing Opportunity of a Daystar Scholarship.

Meet Joel: From being an Orphan, to Servant Leader, to a Passion for Journalism

Joel Ochieng Omullo-2.JPG

I am an orphan and first born in a family of three siblings. I am a strong believer in God’s Word. My youngest sibling is in high school now and we are making sure he gets an education because with education, the mind is empowered to do great things by the grace of God.

After losing my Dad in 2013, I sought to join Daystar University even though I had no ability to raise fees. I was just determined to pursue higher education. My mom while working as a laborer believed that we should apply and join because God would make a way. I applied and struggled through the registration process due to lack of fees but eventually started classes. Through the Finance office, from time to time I would do exams but for 2013 fall semester, I wasn’t able to register my courses for the balance was too huge to continue. I came back later and through the Higher Education Loans, work-study scholarship and community fundraisers, I managed to study until fall of 2015 when I got the full scholarship. I lost my mom in the beginning of 2017 and it did affect me greatly. Having planned to graduate that same year, after her demise, I couldn’t finish school. I had to do an internship and begin looking for ways to earn an income and support my siblings. I later got a chance to finish my classes in December 2018.

My time in Daystar has been very fulfilling. I have learned a lot through student life; from Chapel, Bible Study, playing basketball and just time spent interacting with friends from different parts of the world. SHINE FM, the student radio station, played an important role in terms of equipping me for the media industry. The integrated education system has also played an important role just being able to learn from a Christian perspective has given me an objective and hope for Servant Leadership, Excellence and Transformation.

I look back and I am happy that you saw the potential in me and decided to support me. I am now empowered and at a point in my life where I feel I can support my siblings, have an impactful career in the media industry and see a future for myself.          I applaud you for enabling my dreams to come true. Kindly, continue being an enabler for others, it goes a long way. Thank you, very much dear friend, I appreciate you and may our good Lord continue to bless you and meet you at your need. Thank you very much, I remain grateful. Blessings.

Scholarships: Invest in the Future of Africa One Student at a Time

So that no more bright young people are turned away every year from Daystar because they cannot raise the needed tuition.

We invite you to partner with Daystar in equipping students to transform Africa. One of the best ways you can do this is through the Scholarship Program. Daystar would like to continue to broaden its influence, and this means enabling many more students from low economic backgrounds to afford its tuition.

Many students have no access to loans or scholarships and must either sacrifice at great cost to obtain this education or forego the dream altogether. Government grants, loans, and scholarships are not readily available in Kenya. As education costs continue to rise, the need for additional financial aid and scholarship also increases.

Scholarship funds are critical components to the vitality and success of Daystar University. A single Daystar graduate may directly and indirectly influence hundreds or even thousands of people in his or her lifetime. This ripple effect will help transform Africa for generations to come. You can make a difference!

YOUR GIFT TO THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND ALWAYS GOES DIRECTLY TO HELP A STUDENT.
